Three books most influential in my life

1) One of my first most influential books in my life is the Bible. Ever since I was a little girl, I was raised in a family with Christian faith. So throughout my life, I have always heard bible verses that had positive influences. When I face hardships, I often seek the Bible to comfort me with His words. One of the most influential verses that I found is in - 1 Corinthians , it is "Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always preserves." (1 Corinthians 13:4-7, Bible). This verse really helps me to see the importance of life and how I should approach it.

2) The second most influential books that I read is The Diary of a Young Girl. I read this book when I was in middle school. Anne Frank's experience of saving her family and friends from the Nazis seemed so surreal yet the fact that it was a true story , awes me to this day. Every time I read this book, I am always at the edge of my seat. I am excited, frightened, amazed, and surprised. For these reasons, I conclude that The Diary of a Young Girl is one of the most influential books I read in my life.

3) The third most influential novel is The Kite Runner. I read this book when I was a senior in high school. This book was written by one of the modern writers, Khaled Hossenini. I say that this book is most influential because it contains all the aspects of a good novel. The conflict between two cultures, friendship, twists and turns in the story, brotherhood, guilt because of Amir's inability to save his friend, fatherhood, going back to Afghanistan to face the fear that had haunted him all throughout his adult life, and love. With all these concepts in the story, I believe that it is one of the most influential novels I read in my life.

Research Project

After reading chapter two, I decided to a gender analysis of how music videos affect its young audiences. By doing content analysis, I will analyze how many times women are presented negatively in music videos. After doing a content analysis, I will use the survey method to ask audiences whether females depicted in music videos are models of how young women now behave. When I gather both information, I will compare and contrast them. From social learning theory, I can predict that my results will be positive that young women are degraded and presented negatively in music videos and that most young women act as how females are depicted in music videos.

Media Autobiography

In my life, I am surrounded by different types of mass media including books, newspapers, magazines, movies, recording, radio, television, and the internet. From a young age, I spent my days watching television and reading books, which were both introduced by my parents. Because I immigrated to U.S., I had a hard time reading. Since I wasn’t a native English speaker, I did not enjoy reading. Instead, I watched many hours of children shows such as Nickelodeon, Disney Channel, and PBS kids. As I advanced in school, I was introduced to many types of books. My favorite novels include One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest by Ken Kesey and A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini. Even though the computer has been around for ages, I did not own a computer until eighth grade. Before computers became mainstream, television and books were my only source to the real world. Soon after, when computers became more popular for school work, I used the internet as my lifeline to the world. Among the eight different types of mass media, I believe that the most important is the internet. Since internet is a converging medium, I like the fact that it can be used to merge different contents. For instance, internet is used to see the news and listen to the radio. Another type of mass media I enjoy is reading magazines. Since I have an interest in fashion, I enjoy reading fashion magazines such as Nylon and Elle. Lately, I have also enjoyed reading fashion blogs and internet news articles about health. Overall, I am surrounded by different types of mass media 24/7 and these different types of mass media have influenced my lifestyle.
